My Rock
MY rock is named Quartzite
- It is metamorphic rock
- It is made up of quartz, mica, feldspar, magnetite, pyrite, ilmenite, garnet, and a few others.
- If the quartzite is pure quartz it is white. It may have a yellowish to reddish color if it contains iron minerals. It is blackrarely if it contains a lot of magnetite
- Most quartzite is metamorphosed sandstone.
- You can sometimes compare it to Marble and sandstone
My rock is cut in half like it was broken, so I’m guessing that it is definitely not a very strong or durable rock.
The inside of the rock is very rough but the outside is very smooth. So I think the rock was broken with force because the cut down the middle isn’t very precise or straight.
The rock I found was in the down spout of our gutter so i think that it was bought to be used as some sort of drain rock.
Some of the characteristics of this rock include shiny’ rough, smooth, grainy, heavy, and it is also oddly shaped.
The colors of this rock are very plain, because it’s blak, white , and yellow. The colors are also very dark and faded so they aren’t very distinct .
This rock that I have is also very round on one side but flat on the other.
The rock that I have found is medium sized and is about as big as one of the lenses in an average pair of sunglasses. If this rock wasn’t cut in half it would be bigger.
Some of the minerals inside the rock are straight but some of them are also round and circular. Most of the spots that are black are bumps that go inside the rock.
