Salty poison

In the United States, California’s San Joaquin Valley faces irrigation problems that are similar to those in Mashkan-shapir. The ground is not good for planting or farming, because of the poisonous salt in the water that is used to water the ground. The water will evaporate and leave just the poisonous salt behind. People in  San Joaquin Valley have tried to dig deep holes to dispose of the poisonous salt and they have also tried washing the ground with water and putting it back into the ocean, but so far neither of these plans have succeeded.
